- From Wissek, Prussia, now Wysoka, Poland. Emigrated through Bremen GER via Southampton ENG on ship Weser with son Conrad, 10 and wife Charlotte arriving in New York on April 24, 1876 . He is thought to have died in or near Buffalo NY soon after arriving in US. Hoenke is also spelled Hohnke, Hoehnke, Henke, Hanke, and Hankey. Wissek (now Wysoka) is located approximately 200 kilometers NE of Berlin, GER. The records of the Lobsens Evangelical Church, Kreis Wirsitz, Posen, Prussia, site that he was married "in the prayer room in Mlotkowo". He was a master tailor in Wissek. The Mormon library lists approximately 40 Hohnke's in the province of Poznan. Most of them are from Labischin (Labiszyn) and Bromberg (Bydzdoszcz), both about 45 kilometers from Wissek. The library also lists many Hoenke's, Honke's, Henke's, Hohnke's, and Hoehnke's in the province of Posen and other parts of Germany, principally in Westphalen (Westphalia) and Brandenberg (Berlin). The Berlin phone book lists Hohnke, Hoehnke, and Hoenke in the same alphabetical sequence.
