Notes |
- Magdalin Jaklin was born in Bohemia, March 4th, 1849; and was united in marriage with Joseph Baumel on February 13th, 1865. She passed away at her home in the town of Preston, on Sept. 7th, 1920, aged 81 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Baumel came to this country in November, 1879, and settled in Chicago, where for years her husband followed his profession as musician and band-master. They came to the town of Preston (Wisconsin) in 1899 and have since made their home on a farm in that town. To them were born six children-Frank and Charles of Chicago; John, of Preston; one son, Joseph, Jr, who died ninteteen years ago; Mrs. Mary Marjan of Chicago; and Mrs. Katherine Layer of this village. Deceased is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Baumel was a good woman, a kind and loyal wife, a loving and affectionate morther. Coming to this country after reaching womanhood, she never mastered the English language, but in the children she reared-honorable, upright men and women, are evidence of the training and traits of the loving affection of a good and patient mother. To the aged husband now called upon to complete life's journey alone, and to the children and other relatives, the sympathy of the community goes out in their bereavement.
Funeral services were held at the home on Sept. 9th and interment was in Mount Repose cemetery. (Close to Preston, I think).
Present at the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baumel, Mrs. Mary Marjan and Joseph Baumel, a nephew, all of Chicago.
