BELOIT ? Beloit Attorney Frank X. Kinast, age 89, died peacefully Sunday at home. He was born in Milwaukee, WI, on June 21, 1914, to Dr. John J. Kinast, DDS, and Viola (Bodden) Kinast. In his infancy the family moved to Beloit. He attended Beloit schools, graduating from Beloit Memorial High School in 1933. Kinast worked his way through both undergraduate (economics) and law school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his law degree in 1947, after serving four years in World War II, including three years overseas. He played varsity tennis at UW. From 1947 to 1950 he served as Rock County assistant district attorney. He then was elected district attorney and was re-elected in 1952. He married Rock County native Catherine Ann Whitmore on Dec. 31, 1952, at St. Jude Parish, Beloit. The couple had seven children, and he proved to be a devoted father and husband. An important achievement during his tenure as district attorney was a revision of the county's system of appropriations, culminating in authorization of a complete audit for 1955 by the state department of auditing. Kinast entered private practice on Jan. 1, 1955, continuing his successful trial career. At the same time he built a busy family law practice in which he demonstrated a genuine interest in the welfare of his clients. He worked until a month before his death. He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks, Am. Vets UW Alumni Association, and the state and local bars; he formerly served on the Beloit Police and Fire Commission and on the Rock County Board, where he chaired the Airport Committee. Frank is survived by his wife, Ann; 2 sons and 3 daughters: Christopher G. (Jill) Kinast of Beloit, Rev. Frank X. Kinast Jr. (Melissa) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Cathy Cameron of San Diego, Elizabeth Strong (Donald) of Everett, WA, and Amy Kinast (Darin Burleigh) of Madison; grandchildren: Claire and Stephanie Kinast, Jessica Cameron, Kimberley and Luke Strong, and Katie, Abbey and Emily Kinast; 3 sisters: Koletta Kendall of Del Rey, FL, Rose Burt (Roy) of Beaverton, OR, and Mary Schultz (Kenneth) of Knoxville, TN. He was predeceased by his parents; 2 of his children, Fr. Timothy Kinast and Kimberley Kinast; and 3 brothers: Leo, Albert and John. A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, in the DALEY-MURPHY-WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI, with Fr. Steven Kortendick officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
