A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Henry was born Jan. 1, 1926, in the town of Hull to the late John and Frances (Janiszewski) Gollonik. He attended St. Casimir Grade School and P.J. Jacobs High School.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army on Aug. 28, 1944, in Milwaukee. He received an honorable discharge July 9, 1946, at Fort Sheridan, Ill., as a Tech 5. Henry served in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three bronze battle stars, three Overseas Service Bars, Army of Occupation-Germany Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Following the military, he returned to high school and graduated in 1947.
Henry was married to Nina Lewis on Nov. 12, 1955, at St. Casimir Catholic Church. She preceded him in death April 24, 1982.
He worked for Worzella Publishing as a linotype operator more than 40 years, retiring in 1990.
Henry played hardball for area, county and state leagues from 1947 to 1958. He won the hardball batting championship three years in a row. He also played softball as shortstop until he was in his late 50's and coached women's softball for more than 15 years. He was an avid supporter of area athletic programs.
Henry enjoyed camping, picnicking, polka music, a cold beer, a good laugh and sharing stories with family and friends. He also enjoyed deer hunting with the boys up north and snipe hollow deer camp.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra (Robert) Karpinski of St. Germain; a son, David (Trisha) of Mosinee; three sisters, Betty Harvath of Stevens Point, Germaine Walkush of Town of Hull and Martha Harwood of Seattle; and a special friend, Angie Hojnacki of Whiting. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death, besides by his wife, by five sisters and three brothers.
Henry was a kind, generous, Christian man who was a friend to everyone he met. He will be sadly missed.
A special thank you to the staff at St. Michael's Hospital, and especially Dr. Montgomery.
