Val was born Sept. 29, 1903, in Amherst Junction. Her parents, John Kubisiak and Veronica Somers moved their family to a farm near Amherst Junction. From there Valeria attended school at the Black Oak Grove school and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel at Fancher.

When Valeria's dad John F. Kubisiak served as sheriff of Portage County, Val lived at the county jail and continued her schooling at St. Peter's in Stevens Point.

As a young woman, Val worked in Milwaukee and Chicago and became an accomplished seamstress. She met Marcus (Red) Newton in Chicago and they married at Fancher on Oct. 1, 1928. With their seven children, Val and Marcus lived in Amherst, Phillips, Stevens Point, and Milwaukee where Val was employed as a seamstress. Upon their retirement, Val and Marcus returned to Stevens Point. After Marcus' death in 1980, Valeria lived in retirement at St. Joseph Convent for 18 years and on Bluebell Lane for one year.

Val was the true spiritual heart of her family and will be sadly missed by her children, Marchita (Dan) Polum, Stevens Point, Marcus (Virginia) Newton, Stevens Point, Mary Ellen (Hank) Bemowski, Stevens Point, Thomas (Bernadine) Newton, Schofield, Dorothy (William) Semple, Glidden, and Rachel (John) Torpy, Milwaukee; a brother Paul (Lillian) Kubisiak, Waupaca; and a sister Theresa Starks, Waupaca; the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent; friends at Harmony; and many other relatives and friends.

Val's 39 grandchildren, 98 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren will miss her joyful spirit and unconditional love.

Valeria was surely welcomed into paradise by her parents; her husband, Red; daughter Diane; brothers Edwin, Joseph, Conrad, Bernard; and sisters, Bernice, Germaine, Pearl and Sister Dorothy Kubisiak, SSJ.

Valeria was a true homemaker in every respect. She enriched the lives of family and friends with her many interests and talents. Together with Red, the home was always a place of loving acceptance.

      God Keep you Ma.

We cherish the memories of your presence in our lives.
